Akasagarbha (Jp: Kokuzo Bosatsu)
Kokuzo Bodhisattva appears with a wish-granting gem, by means of which he bestows worldly blessings on all beings. This jewel represents joy and virtue. In his right hand he carries a sharp sword which represents wisdom. Believers pray to Kokuzo to grant them wisdom on their quest toward enlightenment.
In Japan, Kokuzo Bodhisattva is also venerated for the ability to fulfill wishes. In particular, people pray to Kokuzo to improve their memory, technical skills, and artistic talents. In addition of wisdom-bestowing, he also the patron of craftspeople and artisans.
